About Us

The Hill Merchant Association (“The Hill Boulder”) is a non-profit organization (501c3) committed to renewing vibrancy of arts and culture, producing community events, and promoting year-round business in the University Hill district. We are a joint effort of business owners who want to share the neighborhood with residents, students, and visitors.

Since 2014, The Hill Boulder has improved lighting and irrigation, held community clean-up days, and increased traffic to retailers and restaurants through the passing of 2A, a voter-approved initiative to improve the business district. We have also approved the construction of a hotel and conference center, which will bring year-round business and increased retail and parking space.

When the pandemic began, we worked to help Hill businesses respond to COVID-19. In the summers of 2020 and 2021, we hosted an outdoor live music series on the Hill Event Street, activating a recently refurbished street while supporting art during a challenging time. We also funded digital art by local artists of color as part of the series' virtual offerings.

Currently, we are working hard to stay involved in the progress of the two new developments on The Hill, The Nichols Partnership's Hill Hotel and the Limelight Hotel and Conference Center. For more information on these projects, click here. We are also beginning to host in-person events again, so be sure to check out our calendar.

About The Hill

Boulder's University Hill district has a rich history dating back to the late 19th century. Located just northwest of the University of Colorado Boulder campus, the area was originally developed as a residential neighborhood for faculty and staff of the university.

In the early 20th century, the district began to transform into a commercial hub, with the construction of several restaurants, shops, and entertainment venues. Today, the University Hill district is known for its vibrant mix of businesses and cultural attractions, including the Colorado Chautauqua, a National Historic Landmark.

Over the years, the University Hill district has undergone several renovations and revitalization efforts to maintain its character and appeal. Despite these changes, the area has remained a popular destination for both locals and visitors alike, offering a unique blend of history, culture, and entertainment.
